MArdex, CIA. is one of Ecuador's top producers of frozen mahi, offering a full line of value added mahi products. Mardex has celebrated over 17 years in business. During the 2002-2003 seasons they produced and shipped over one million pounds of value - added mahi to South Bay Seafood. Long time innovators, Mardex was the first of our plants to utilize an ozone water system, this process is now being implemented in all of our plants. The plants has an on site lab, 2 blast freezers, a shrimp grader, matal detector, and a freezer that can hold 6 containers of product. Mardex currently packs a variety of CO products under a USDC approved procedure. Along with a full line of fin fish they pack lobsters, squid and shrimp under the Mardex Gold/Silver barands. Mardex is also a top producer of fresh tuna, sword, mahi, wahoo, marlin, snapper and grouper. Mardex is a vertically integrated company with financial interest in 22 mother ships that supply products year round. Mardex is a HACCP certified plant, as well as ISO certified. They have also passed several rigorous QC audits with customers like Darden and Long John Silver. Along with over 9 million in sales, the combination of experience, expertise, and constant upgrading of the facility, position Mardex for continued success.

We have also developed a process that enhances our ability to maintain moisture during the freezing process. We will be introducing marlin, sword, tuna and mahi packed under this procedure coming soon.

Two decades ago South Bay began exploring the docks of South America in search of quality fish with a tropical flare, for the North East markets. The journey has yielded great relationships with quality packing plants in Ecuador and Central America, suppliers of tuna, sword, marlin, grouper and varieties of snapper. We are happy to say that the journey continues this time to the north of Brazil. Working with state of the art facilities in Guyana and Suriname we are bringing our experience in handling and processing to develop a full line of corvina portions. The demand for mild, white fish portions continues to grow and this species can perform. By utilizing the same techniques in processing as our mahi program we have added another top quality mild white fish to our product line.

We have instituted our strict quality control procedures with both plants, assuring that our product is safe and accountable. The Guyana plant is a brand new facility equipped with the newest ozone water system, 2 blast freezers, built on the docks of the Fisherman Co-op. The plant operates in compliance with USFDA HACCP, GMP and proper SSOP. Processing both fresh and frozen snapper, grouper and corvina this state of the art plant is poised for growth.

The newest addition to our global family of plants is located in Suriname. This facility is both HACCP and EU approved. They have been supplying frozen fillets and H&G corvina to the Caribbean market, along with a limited amount of fresh fish to the US market. Our Suriname plant has over 10,000 square feet for processing, an ozone water system, a grader, and a blast freezer with a production capacity of 22,000 lb per day. It has a holding capacity for frozen fish for over 450,000 pounds. We are very excited about the growth potential for the frozen markets of the world.
